Tips & Advice
The most popular water sport stand-up paddle (SUP for short) has become an absolute trend not just since last summer. Unlike other trend sports, the stand-up paddle board is by no means a new creation, but a forgotten water sport. The athlete stands upright on a large surfboard. In the early days of this young trend sport, improved surfboards such as longboards or doubleboards were used. The long oars in the hands of the athletes provide propulsion.
Now special stand-up paddle boards are celebrating their victory. Especially the iSUPs. The "i" stands for inflatable. Since these inflatable stand up paddle boards have been around, it has become a sport for the whole family.
It is no longer necessary to stow away or borrow a huge 3-meter board, which takes a lot out of the holiday budget in the long run. You can get good inflatable SUPs for under €300.
The right board makes the difference
All-round, touring, wave or race boards
Allround Boards
With stand up paddle boards, a basic distinction is made between touring, wave and race boards. These are all between 280 and 320 cm long and offer enough space for you and your child. There are also all-round boards that are suitable for everything but are not perfectly tailored to specific activities.
Touring Boards
With the touring board you can ride longer distances where you put nature and calm paddling in the foreground. With this you can drive long distances without having to exert yourself extremely. With the touring board you can enjoy the beauty of nature and use the time on the water to relax.
Race Boards
If you are preparing for paddle races, you need a race board. These long boards can reach a high speed, but also have the risk that the paddler can fall into the water. A good balance and trained leg muscles are prerequisites for this SUP variant. Race boards are the most training-intensive boards along with the wave boards.
Wave Boards
A special board for waves is the wave board. This model is closer to surfboards, because this is also a form of surfing. A slightly shorter body and a thinner contact surface give the board enough agility to ride waves.
